A California bicyclist who was rendered paraplegic after a 2009 riding accident in Malibu has obtained $15.5 million following a settlement in a case against the state’s Department of Transportation and several contractors.

Vince Colarossi, 58, was on a Sunday morning ride along the shoulder of the Pacific Coast Highway when he crashed at a graveled area that was being repaved, according to his attorney, Sarah Serpa, of Callahan & Blaine in Santa Ana, Calif.
