An attorney’s estate cannot claim a $30 million deduction for the costs of a malpractice case filed against him by a former client, a federal appeals court has ruled.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Wednesday affirmed a lower court decision and determined that the estate of attorney William Saunders Jr. was not entitled to the deduction stemming from a lawsuit filed by the estate of former client Harry Stonehill, an American businessman.
