The Senate had just voted to block the nomination of veteran voting-rights lawyer Debo Adegbile to lead the nation’s federal civil rights enforcement when the president of the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) wrote a thank-you note to the group’s members.
“The defeat of Adegbile is in no small part because of you,” John McNesby told the law enforcement officers on March 5.
