A class action has been filed against a company that manages several California skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities on behalf of patients who claim they were subjected to understaffing and poor training.

The suit, filed on March 12 in Orange County, Calif., Superior Court, was brought by the children and widow of Thomas Mac Rae, a patient who was admitted to Manor Care Health Services-Fountain Valley on Oct. 10 following hip fracture surgery. His family members claim he was hospitalized after suffering renal failure, dehydration and pressure sores due to understaffing and poor training. Mac Rae, 81, died on Nov. 9.
