A federal judge has certified a class action against a Tennessee businessman once dubbed a “payday loan king” by critics for, among other things, allegedly sending robotext messages to thousands of cellphone users around the country without their consent.

In U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, Judge Andrew Gordon on March 26 dismissed two challenges by Chattanooga businessman Carey Brown to the suit against himself and his companies, Credit Payment Services, LeadPile and ClickMedia. The case is Kristensen v. Credit Payment Services
