The manufacturer of a brand-name sleeping pill cannot be held liable for alleged injuries suffered by a business traveler who, after taking a generic form of the drug, acted erratically and lost his job, a federal judge has ruled.
Daniel Stewart Jr. sued pharmaceutical manufacturer Sanofi-Aventis for failing to warn consumers about the serious side effects that could occur after taking zolpidem, a generic form of Sanofi’s Ambien sleeping pill. Ambien itself has been the focus of numerous product liability actions. Zolpidem is not manufactured by Sanofi.
