The Consumer Product Safety Commission voted, 3-0, to approve a new federal standard for soft infant and toddler carriers.
The commission received 125 reports, including of four deaths, regarding soft infant and toddler carriers between Jan. 1, 1999, and July 15, 2013. The problems included problems with infants falling, the straps, the stitching and seams, and with the structure, fit and position of the carriers, according to commission records. The new standard becomes effective on Sept. 29.
