The Mississippi Supreme Court has reversed a wrongful death verdict of $1.7 million in a silica case. The court concluded the plaintiffs had not shown sufficient evidence of Mississippi Valley Silica Co. Inc.’s liability.

Gwendolyn Reeves, the wrongful death beneficiary of Robert B. Reeves, prosecuted the lawsuit on allegations that Robert M. Reeves developed lung injuries from inhaling silica from sand Mississippi Valley purportedly sold to Illinois Central Railroad, Reeves’ employer. Reeves worked as a brakeman and then as a conductor between 1947 and 1991.
