The U.S. Department of Justice became more entangled in the IRS controversy on Wednesday amid allegations that prosecutors considered bringing cases against certain tax-exempt groups as part of the administration’s response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and 16 committee members sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. asking for more documents in the committee’s ongoing congressional investigation.
