PATTON BOGGS SETTLES: Patton Boggs has settled with Chevron over fraud claims after the firm became involved in a suit about pollution in the Amazon that led to a now-challenged $9.5 billion judgment. The Washington law firm will pay Chevron $15 million within 30 days, will return any of the contingency to Chevron it stood to earn if the judgment pays out, and admitted regret. Jan Wolfe of the American Lawyer details the settlement, and I wrote about what it means as the firm pursues a merger to solve its ongoing financial challenges.
