Wendy White and Betsy Karmin, real estate lawyers at two of the biggest firms in the country, had thought for years they might want to leave. When the chairwoman of a smaller firm with a strong real estate group reached out, they took the chance.
White left her position leading Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s real estate group in Washington, and Karmin left DLA Piper’s group. Last week, they joined Atlanta-based Morris, Manning & Martin, a 250-lawyer firm with no established real estate practice in Washington, to build their own group as partners.
