No matter what the Census Bureau says, Chicago has no plans to change its nickname to the Third City anytime soon. But at 2.7 million citizens within its borders alone, Chicago is the nation’s third most populous city and the heart of the six-county metro area of 9.54 million.
All of the city’s legal business is handled by corporation counsel’s department, which employs roughly 270 lawyers in a 400 full-time-employee operation that handles all legal business for the mayor’s office, the Chicago City Council and all city departments.
