Arizona’s Medicaid program must pay for incontinence briefs for low-income adults with disabilities who need the protection to prevent infection, a federal appeals court has ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on May 13 upheld the core of a 2012 ruling by the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona that the refusal of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System Administration to cover briefs deemed medically necessary to prevent infection and skin problems violates federal law.
