U.S. Bank N.A. has agreed to pay almost $2 million to settle a class action by California bank tellers who sued because they were not provided chairs at their teller stations, according to federal court documents.
The tellers, who worked as “in store bankers” at locations in grocery and other retail stores, had to stand behind counter-high stations and were not provided seats, according to documents in Cynthia Brooks and Jacob Swoyer v. U.S. Bank NA, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. As a result, they suffered physical discomfort, according to the complaint.
