Two former patients claim an Alabama hospital was negligent in protecting their sensitive personal information, in a proposed class action with a twist: Unlike other data security breach complaints, this one involves the alleged theft of paper records, not online ones.

Plaintiffs Bradley Smith and Julie McGee claim that Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala., left unattended and unsecured the room that held their records, which, along with scores of others, were stolen by a Flowers employee and an accomplice sometime between June 2013 and February.
