The Senate on Wednesday advanced the nomination of David Barron for a slot on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
The close 52-43 vote in reflected a weeklong push from the White House to overcome opposition from Republicans and some Democrats over Barron’s work in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. Barron wrote a secret memo that provided the legal justification for drone strikes that killed three American citizens abroad.
