Squire Sanders, a global law firm with roots in Cleveland, will combine with Washington, D.C.-based lobbying powerhouse Patton Boggs to form Squire Patton Boggs, the firms announced to their partners Friday afternoon. The combination will take effect June 1.

After a sudden suspension in Squire Sanders’ partner vote Thursday morning and its resumption that evening, partners there approved the merger late on Friday. Patton Boggs, whose partnership voted on Monday by paper, also approved the tie up, the firms confirmed. A Patton Boggs partner said the partnership was notified by email.
