The reseller of a device that downloads Korean television shows to Los Angeles residents has sued three broadcasting networks for airing news reports that liken its product to streaming startup Aereo Inc.

Media Journal Inc. sells the TVPad, a set-top box made in China that uses the Android operating system to download apps that allow users to watch live broadcast television programs from China, Korea and Japan on their television sets. In its suit, filed on Monday in Los Angeles County, Calif., Superior Court, Media Journal accuses the networks of airing news reports last month that have scared away its customers, most of whom are Korean-Americans. Specifically, the reports claimed that anyone who bought a TVPad from Media Journal could be liable for copyright infringement and face $250,000 in damages.
