Maidenform Brands LLC and another maker of women’s shapewear who claim their undergarments employ fabric infused with caffeine and assorted nutrients to destroy fat asked on June 5 for a stay of several proposed class actions pending hearings on their motions to consolidate the cases.

Citing a “proliferation of copycat complaints,” Maidenform and Wacoal America Inc. requested a stay in putative class complaints from disgruntled consumers in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts until the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Legislation considers consolidating the cases before the New Jersey federal court. The panel is scheduled to hear the defendants’ motions on July 31.
