Between January 2010 and December 2013, I surveyed 540 lawyers and 944 law students from across the country on a wide variety of topics, including their use of social media. Two of the questions I routinely asked were: “Do you have a LinkedIn account?” and “Do you use Twitter?”

While statistics demonstrate the increasingly social nature of the legal profession, it remains critical to empower individuals by fostering follow-up and cultivating consistency. After all, in our technology-centric society, engagement alone is not enough. We need to integrate automated reminders, on-demand programming, game-oriented benchmarking and transparent reporting to promote greater opportunity.
