The University of California at Los Angles School of Law will host a daylong conference on police and community relations as part of a $500,000 settlement between the university and a judge who accused campus police of roughing him up during a traffic stop last year.
UCLA and Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Cunningham III jointly announced the settlement on July 11. Of the total recovery, $150,000 will go to Cunningham and his attorney while the remaining $350,000 will establish scholarships for African-American undergraduates or law students at UCLA.
