Same-sex marriages may begin in Virginia next week unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on Wednesday, in a 2-1 order, rejected a request to stay its decision last month striking down Virginia’s bans on same-sex marriages and recognition of those marriages from out of state.
