California courts do not have jurisdiction over the German-based Daimler AG to adjudicate a products liability case, the California First Court of Appeal has ruled.
The decision reversed the trial court’s exercise of general personal jurisdiction over Daimler, which is publicly traded on the German stock markets. While the plaintiffs argued that general jurisdiction over Daimler AG was proper, the German carmaker was not “essentially at home in the forum state,” Acting Presiding Justice Timothy A. Reardon said.
