Jacqueline Gilbert spent 15 days in a coma after her Chevrolet Cobalt crashed in 2012. Her attorney, Nancy Winkler, doesn’t want her claim against General Motors Co. to get bogged down in the massive multidistrict litigation pending against the automaker in New York.

So on May 5, Gilbert filed her case in the Philadelphia Co., Pa., Court of Common Pleas, where an aggressive case-management system could put her on track for a trial next year.
