A class action civil rights suit has been filed in Louisiana federal court against the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals by six mentally ill prisoners over their continued incarceration despite being found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The plaintiffs claim they have been denied access to mental healthcare while incarcerated which they allege violates their rights under the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
