Former Sen. John Edwards returned to the law in November 2013 when he founded the firm Edwards Kirby. His oldest daughter, Cate, however, negotiated a merger with her own firm, Edwards & Eubanks, that gave Edwards Kirby a Washington presence.
The merger was national news — and Cate Edwards, often a spokeswoman for her family, had helped to orchestrate one of the most buzzed-about plaintiffs’-side business reorganizations of last year. She and partner Sharon Eubanks work on civil rights cases, especially related to workplace sexual harassment and discrimination. Their national practice is based in Washington, while John Edwards and others handle personal injury and medical malpractice law from Raleigh. — Katelyn Polantz
