In the face of scorched earth tactics by defense counsel, Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy doesn’t back down. Firm partner Steven Williams pointed to the firm’s recent 13-year court battle against lead paint companies. Defense lawyers focused on the old age of the facts, but Williams said the firm worked to keep the judge’s attention on the threat that lead paint still posed to the public.

In January, a California state court judge ordered the companies to set up a $1.15 billion abatement fund. “We have the experience and resources to take cases that are going to be very difficult and very long,” Williams said. Motley Rice, the Law Offices of Peter Earle and Mary Alexander & Associates served as co-counsel for the plaintiffs.
