Denouncing a putative class action against it as “abusive,” Twitter Inc. has asked a California federal judge to throw out allegations the company unlawfully sends texts to new holders of cellphone numbers without their consent.

In a Sept. 16 motion to dismiss, the company denounced as unfounded allegations by Massachusetts plaintiff Beverly Nunes that Twitter violated the federal Telephone Computer Protection Act by delivering automated and unauthorized texts to her after she was assigned a phone number that had belonged to a previous customer.
