Another purportedly “small-batch” whiskey—this one Templeton Rye Spirits, advertised as distilled in Iowa from a recipe favored by Al Capone—has drawn the focus of a proposed class action alleging marketing deception.

Plaintiff Christopher McNair, in a lawsuit filed in Cook County, Ill., circuit court, alleges that the whiskey is actually made by MGP Ingredients in Indiana, in a large industrial operation that distills and ages a wide variety of other alcoholic spirits to be bought in bulk by boutique whiskey retailers and others.
