The parents of a San Francisco Giants fan who won a nearly $18 million verdict over injuries he sustained after being beaten in the Los Angeles Dodgers parking lot has sued the team again, claiming its insurance company secretly purchased a lien on their son’s medical expenses and now wants an inflated share in the jury award.

Dave and Elizabeth Ann Stow in July won a verdict against the Dodgers and the two men who beat their son, Bryan Stow, on opening day in 2011. Stow was left brain injured and relies upon a wheelchair. The Dodgers are required under California law to pay all medical costs and lost earnings, leaving them on the hook for about $14 million.
