Google Inc. hired executive chairman Eric Schmidt on the advice of Heidrick & Struggles International Inc., the nation’s oldest executive search firm and the world’s second-largest publicly held search firm. Founded in 1953, Heidrick also does leadership consulting and what it calls “culture shaping,” particularly following mergers or changes in the executive suites.
