The company that operates red-light cameras in some 70 Florida municipalities is facing a proposed federal class action alleging it violates a state law that allows only government employees to issue citations.

Plaintiffs Christopher Parker and Marwa Moussa filed suit on Oct. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleging contractor American Traffic Solutions Inc. (ATS) and the Florida cities and towns in which it operates traffic cameras, are breaking Florida law requiring state “traffic infraction enforcement officers” to review camera images and issue any tickets that result.
