Watched: The D.C. Circuit this morning will examine the NSA’s bulk collection of phone data, marking the second appeals court to review the merits of the surveillance program. “Whatever one thinks of Snowden, we’re only here because of him,” legal scholar Stephen Vladeck told The Baltimore Sun in a preview of the oral argument. The D.C. Circuit declined to allow any broadcast of the hearing. Check back later at The BLT for a report on today’s hearing.
Replaced: Well, not quite yet. But a decision is nearing on the president’s pick to replace retiring Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., NPR reports. Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch is among the top of the would-be nominees. Holder hasn’t said where he’s headed after leaving DOJ.
