The White House for weeks had made clear President Obama would announce his pick to replace Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. after the midterm elections. But, as Obama made clear at a press conference Wednesday afternoon, one day after the elections is too soon.

Asked directly by The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein, “have you settled on a nominee to replace Attorney General Eric Holder and, if so, who is it?” the president provided a boilerplate answer. Obama said:
