President Obama intends to nominate U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch on Saturday to be the attorney general, according to a White House statement released late Friday.

If confirmed, Lynch, 55, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, would be the first African-American woman to serve in the position.
