Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s lawyers are having trouble lining up defense witnesses. Attorney Judy Clarke said on Nov. 12 that potential witnesses fear follow-up calls from prosecutors, and asked for leave to withhold the defense list until trial. “We’re already struggling to get people to talk to us,” she said. But U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. said no and gave Tsarnaev’s lawyers until Dec. 29 to produce their list.
BIG BINGHAM LATERAL MOVE
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius partners voted Nov. 14 to admit 227 Bingham McCutchen partners into their partnership, according to a source briefed on the matter. The mass lateral move — not a merger — was expected to take place before month’s end. Other Bingham lawyers and staffers were expected to join Morgan Lewis in time. The hires make Morgan Lewis a 2,000-lawyer firm with offices in 28 cities. Bingham and Morgan Lewis have been talking with one another for months.
