One of the country’s premier civil rights organizations is suing its landlord in federal court, claiming imminent building renovations will interfere with its legal work and other operations in violation of its lease.

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law rents office space in downtown Washington. Earlier this year, the nonprofit said it learned that its landlord was planning major renovations to the building, including replacing the façade, windows and ventilation systems. In a lawsuit filed Dec. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the group said the landlord failed to offer reasonable options to minimize disruptions.
