A federal judge has ruled Starbucks Corp. can continue its $4.8 million lawsuit against meat suppliers for allegedly supplying poor quality and potentially unsafe ham for breakfast and lunch sandwiches sold at Starbuck stores across the United States and Canada.
Judge Noel Hillman of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Camden denied Hahn Brothers Co.’s motion to dismiss without prejudice the suit against it and Wellshire Farms Inc., rejecting Hahn’s argument that Maryland’s three-year statute of limitations should apply to Starbucks’ contract and negligence claims, as opposed to New Jersey’s six-year limit.
