The U.S. Justice Department late Monday urged a federal district judge in Washington to deny Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s request for an injunction to block the Obama administration’s execution action on immigration.

The feds argue from the outset that the executive action outlined in late November is designed to “more effectively administer and enforce out nation’s immigration laws.” Arpaio’s injunction, the Justice Department argues, “would subvert the government’s judgment about how best to protect border security, national security and public safety, including by focusing on the removal of priority aliens.”
