In its attempt to toss out a sweeping class action filed over last holiday season’s massive data breach, Target Corp. didn’t get exactly what it wanted.

U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson refused on Thursday to dismiss the case, filed on behalf of a nationwide class of consumers alleging economic damages tied to Target’s failure to detect and promptly respond to the breach. The ruling came one year after Target announced a security breach that compromised the personal and credit and debit card information of 110 million customers.
