Milwaukee-based North­western Mutual Life Insurance Co. describes itself as the nation’s largest direct provider of individual life insurance, and also offers long-term care and disability insurance, investments and wealth-management services. The company was founded in 1872 and now has $217.1 billion in assets, ranking 110th on the Fortune 500.

General Counsel Raymond Manista supervises 70 attorneys, all at company headquarters. The department also includes paralegals, managers, administrative assistants and research professionals.
