David O’Neil, a top U.S. Department of Justice lawyer who temporarily led the Criminal Division last year, will join Debevoise & Plimpton as a partner.
O’Neil, 41, has spent eight years in the department, including service in the Solicitor General’s Office and as an acting assistant attorney general. He was the deputy attorney general’s chief of staff, before Mythili Raman stepped down from the Criminal Division’s top job. O’Neil worked on prosecutions that include BNP Paribus S.A.’s $9 billion guilty plea agreement in June.
