NEW YORK — JPMorgan Chase & Co. has agreed to pay about $500 million to resolve a class action stemming from Bear Stearns’ issuance of nearly $17.6 billion in mortgage-backed securities ahead of the 2008 financial crisis.

Plaintiffs lawyers told U.S. District Judge Laura Swain in a letter on Jan. 7 that their pension-fund clients have reached “an agreement in principle” with JPMorgan.
