G. Michael Harvey, a veteran prosecutor with national security litigation experience, is in line to become the newest magistrate judge in the Washington federal district court, according to people familiar with the process.

Harvey would fill the seat vacated by John Facciola, who stepped down at the end of 2014 after serving 17 years as a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
