A federal judge has held the city of Atlanta in contempt and imposed sanctions for its failure to meet the terms of a settlement with a woman arrested by police while she filmed them arresting her neighbor. U.S. District Judge Steve Jones gave the city 45 days to revise police department procedures to strictly limit officers’ interference with citizens documenting police activities and to train every police officer in the revised procedures. Jones threatened to fine the city $10,000 a day if it did not comply. And he directed the city to pay Felicia Anderson $25,860 in legal fees and costs.
TSARNAEV GETS DEATH
A Boston federal jury determined on May 15 that convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be put to death. Last month, Tsarnaev was found guilty of planting two bombs near the finish line in April 2013. The bombs killed three people and injured more than 260. He was also found guilty in the death of Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer Sean Collier while on the run from police with his brother, Tamerlan. The death counts included use of a pressure-cooker bomb, and aiding and abetting, in the killing of the three racegoers.
