Pryor Cashman spreads the firm’s wealth by bringing a steady stream of younger lawyers into the partnership and fostering a climate that allows them to build sizeable books of business. Almost half of the firm’s partners originate at least $1 million per year in business and two-thirds originate $500,000 or more, said managing partner Ronald Shechtman, who also chairs the labor & employment group. “We are a firm that is getting younger. That is particularly important for midsize firms,” Shechtman said.

Those attorneys at the New York firm, which also has a Los Angeles outpost, train their sights on emerging areas of the economy. The digital-media group, for example, works on digital licensing and copyrights. It combines lawyers from practices including intellectual property, corporate and litigation. “We recognized the need,” Shechtman said.
