Sonic Corp. calls itself “America’s Drive-In” and deploys carhops to deliver orders of burgers, hot dogs, shakes, ice cream and drinks including cherry limeade to motorists at more than 3,500 sites. Founded in 1953, Oklahoma City-based Sonic plans to open 1,000 new locations in the next decade. Roughly 89 percent of its sites are franchises and 11 percent are company-owned.

Sonic has about 10,400 full- and part-time restaurant workers and reported revenue of $552.3 million during the fiscal year that ended on Aug. 31.
