NEWARK — A federal magistrate judge denied a law firm’s request that Newark-based Sills Cummis & Gross pay its share of nearly $2 million in special master and other fees related to a $215 million class action settlement.
On Oct. 8, U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Wettre denied Woodbridge, N.J.-based Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer’s bid to refigure special master costs. The two firms were class counsel. Wettre also rebuffed a motion by Wilentz and New York-based Pomerantz to recover special counsel costs from attorneys Barry Epstein and Barbara Quackenbos. The two handled the matter while previously practicing at both Sills Cummis and Wilentz.
