The takeaway for lawyers from the GM ignition-switch fiasco is for legal staff to have an open path for full disclosure—up the chain.

That was the conclusion from a discussion at the panel titled “General Motors: What In-house Counsel Can Learn from the Valukas Report” on Tuesday at the Association of Corporate Counsel’s annual meeting. The panel at the conference in Boston focused on the report that slammed General Motors Co.’s response to a deadly ignition-switch defect.
