Steven Scheinthal is the general counsel at Landry’s, a Houston-based gaming, restaurant, retail and entertainment provider. Its properties include five Golden Nugget casinos, including one in Atlantic City and a recent opening in Lake Charles, Louisiana; Morton’s Steakhouses and McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood and Steaks. Privately-held Landry’s would not disclose revenue, but it employs around 60,000 people. Scheinthal said the hiring trend is on the upswing over the past year, increasing by more than 10 percent.

LEGAL TEAM

Scheinthal heads up a team of five lawyers and an equal number of support staff. Asked to break down the team’s workload, he estimated 50 percent litigation and 50 percent transactional, including advice, financings, acquisitions and real estate. The in-house legal team handles about 25 percent of the total workload.
